Circulation Policy

Service Area

The CDL will serve all residents of Burns, Caledonia, Hazelton, Perry, Shiawassee, and Venice townships and the Cities of Corunna and Perry. Service will not be denied or abridged because of religious racial, social economic or political status.

A reciprocal borrowing agreement between the CDL and the Genesee District Library, Baker College, and the Vernon District Library will allow patrons to borrow materials from each other free of charge.
Non-resident teachers may also borrow materials for use in classrooms within the library’s legal service area no charge. Other non-residents are required to pay a non-resident fee of $45. The borrowers’ fee is set by the Library Board.

Library Cards

Cards will be issued to patrons who are sixteen (16) years and older and who produce a valid drivers’ license, state identification card and a completed library application form (white).

Patrons fifteen (15) years or younger must bring a parent or guardian into the library to sign the application as the responsible party and provide a valid drivers’ license or state ID.

No library card will be issued without proper ID. Drivers’ licenses or state ID’s must show the applicant’s current address. Replacement cards may be issued for a $3 charge.

Library cards will expire every three years for the purpose of updating address and phone numbers for patrons living in CDL’s service area. Non-resident cards will expire on an annual basis.

Loan Periods

Books, magazines, and audio books circulated for two weeks at a time (14 days). Videos check out for three days.

Renewals

If there are no pending requests for an item, books and magazines may be renewed for additional two-week periods; 1 renewal can be done by the patron online and a second can be granted if the item is brought back to the library.

Patrons may check out materials for an extended period provided there are no other requests for these materials.

Patrons may not renew or check out additional materials when they have an overdue balance of $5 or more.

Lost Materials

Patrons may not renew or check out materials if they have not replaced or paid for a lost material.
Refunds on lost materials will be given if a lost material said item(s) is(/are) returned to the library within 30 days of payment only when accompanied with a receipt and a completed refund request form.
