1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an ongoing program that encourages parents to read with their children as a way to develop early literacy skills before Kindergarten, and foster a life long love of reading. The goal of the program is for children to have read 1000 books before entering Kindergarten.

How it works

  • Parents or caregivers can register at any CDL Branch and will receive book bag with a reading log and other materials

  • Children should color a paw print for each book read, or read to them, even if it's the same book over and over

  • After reading 100 books, bring the book log in for a small prize

  • After the child reads 1000 books, each child receives free hardcover book

It's not as hard you you think!
